All mama bears would go to any lengths to protect her children from danger. While it is impossible to physically protect them from all harm, we do have powerful tools available to us through the blood of Jesus to cover our children with the protection of Heaven. NOTHING on Earth is more powerful than the armor of God, and us mamas have the authority to pray each piece over our children daily.
If your children are very young, pray it over them yourself. If they are older, have them pray with you as you equip them with their protection. Form the daily habit at an early age so they continue the practice into adulthood.
The Armor of God

If you are ever unsure of how to pray for your little ones, start here. God instructs us to put on the armor for a reason: we all need it!! Pray it over yourself, your children, your husband, everyone in your family.
Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.Â
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
The Belt of Truth
The first piece of armor is the belt of truth. Ephesians 6:14 tells us, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.”
The belt of truth symbolizes honesty, integrity, and the foundation of God’s Word. Praying for your children to embrace truth in their hearts helps them navigate a world often clouded by deception. It empowers them to discern right from wrong and to stand firm in their identity as children of God. Encouraging them to seek truth in every situation and to uphold it in their actions will build a character of integrity and trustworthiness.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Next, we have the breastplate of righteousness. Ephesians 6:14 continues, “with the breastplate of righteousness in place.”
This breastplate protects the heart, symbolizing a life lived in alignment with God’s will. Pray that your children will understand the importance of living righteously, making choices that reflect their faith and love for God. This righteousness is not about perfection but about a heart committed to God’s ways, which guards them against the temptations and accusations that seek to wound their spirit.
The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
Ephesians 6:15 states, “and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”
The shoes represent the preparedness and peace that come from knowing and spreading the Gospel. Pray that your children will be grounded in the peace of Christ, allowing them to walk confidently and share the love of Jesus with others. This peace will serve as a foundation in their lives, helping them remain steady and unshaken amidst the trials and tribulations they may face.
The Shield of Faith
The shield of faith, described in Ephesians 6:16, is essential for protection against doubt and fear: “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
Faith acts as a shield, guarding the heart and mind from the lies and attacks of the enemy. Pray that your children’s faith will be strong and unwavering, allowing them to trust God fully and to overcome any challenges with confidence and courage.
The Helmet of Salvation
Ephesians 6:17 instructs, “Take the helmet of salvation.”
The helmet protects the mind, symbolizing the importance of a secure knowledge of salvation and the assurance it brings. Pray for your children’s minds to be guarded against doubt and fear, and for their thoughts to be anchored in the knowledge of their salvation through Jesus Christ. This assurance will give them the confidence to face life’s challenges, knowing they are saved and cherished by God.
The Sword of the Spirit
Finally, Ephesians 6:17 mentions “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
The sword represents the power and authority of God’s Word. Read scripture to your children, and when they are old enough, memorize verses together. Doing so equips them to combat spiritual battles with the truth. Praying that they will have a deep love for the Bible and a readiness to use it effectively will empower them to stand strong in their faith and to respond wisely to life’s difficulties.
