Let’s Get Rolling! Paper Towel Roll Wall Maze

It doesn’t take much to entertain a toddler. Thank goodness, right? This incredibly easy paper towel roll wall maze might just capture your toddler’s attention long enough for you to sit and drink two sips of hot coffee! Stranger things have happened. Let me know how it goes.

What Do I Need For The Magical Paper Towel Roll Wall Maze?

Moms don’t have time for super involved activities. At least, I don’t. My toddler has the attention span of, well, a toddler. Therefore, I’ve got to have activities that are incredibly easy to put together and don’t take a lot of time. Unless he’s napping, I’ve got about 10 minutes of prep time before the house bursts into flames. This activity fits the bill!

Here’s what you’ll need for this paper towel roll wall maze:

  • Empty paper towel rolls or empty toilet paper rolls (as many as you want, the more the merrier!)
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape (I only use Scotch tape to ensure it doesn’t leave marks on the wall)
  • Things that roll (ie. pom poms, tiny toy cars, marbles, nuts, seeds, dry beans, oats, uncooked rice, whatever you’ve got laying around)
  • Something to catch your rolly things (a large plastic bowl)

How Do We Make This Thing?

Once you’ve gathered all of your wall maze items, it’s time to get to work. Quickly now, we’ve not got much time until things get crazy!

Grab your paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls.

Cut the rolls in half.

Using scotch tape, securely fasten the halved rolls to the wall. Position them at a fairly step angle in order to make things roll and slide down the maze easily.

Also, be sure to position them in such a way that the falling items fall easily onto the next piece of the maze. This is no fun if everything falls to the floor after the first row of the maze.

Gather your rolling things!

We used pom poms because we had them laying around, but I want to try food items such as beans, rice, oats, etc. Those types of things will slide easily and create a fun sound.

Place your items at the top of the maze, and hopefully they will zoom down, delighting your toddler in the same way it did my son. He was so excited he jumped up and down, squealing with delight!

And that’s it!

How easy was that? I hope you and your toddler loved this wall maze activity.
