What’s In This Article:
Spill The Tea!

First, I want to make my disclaimer that I am not making any medical claims in this article. I am not a health professional, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I am a huge fan of this tea because it helped me in my own postpartum journey. If you have any health concerns at all and are unsure about adding anything new to your diet, always consult your doctor first.
So what’s the tea already? This amazing hormone balancing tea is a traditional Chinese tea that can be used in all seasons of womanhood.
When I gave birth to my son, we were living in Australia, and I was fortunate enough to have access to some incredible postpartum resources. Among those resources was a food delivery service specifically focused on making foods according to Traditional Chinese Medicine practices for the pregnancy and the postpartum experience. Every week, I received delicious meals that were full of herbs and spices that replenished the body after birth.
Included in each weekly delivery was a packet of the most incredible tea I’ve ever had. It was such a simple concoction of Chinese red dates, Chinese goji berries, and Chinese black dates. When I first saw it, I thought, “What the heck is this?” In fact, I didn’t even make it the first week I received it. I completely wrote it off.
Thankfully, I came to my senses and tried the tea the second week of postpartum life. And hello!! It was amazing! Not only was it so stinking tasty (legit tastes and smells like cake), it 100% had a positive impact on my hormones. I just felt more even and in touch with myself. Now I swear by it.
After doing some research online, I learned that the herbal tea is used throughout China to support the hormonal changes of women. How do we not have this in the rest of the world??
Well, now you know about it, and you can thank me after you try it. It’s magic potion.
3 Simple Ingredients

Dried Chinese Red Dates (Jujube Fruit)
Dried red dates, also known as Jujube fruit, are powerhouses. They have been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. Take a look at some of the known health benefits of these gems.
- Rich source of antioxidants
- Used in China to promote healthy sleep
- Helps prevent constipation
- Rich in Vitamin C
If you’ve never used these before, it can be hard to know where to look. Check out the brand of Chinese dried red dates that I buy HERE on Amazon.
Dried Chinese Goji Berries
Goji berries are another favorite in the world of traditional Chinese medicine.
I lived in China for 7 years, and my Chinese friends often brought me goji berries when I wasn’t feeling well. Now that I know about the amazing health properties of these tiny berries, I understand why they are such a popular health food in China.
Take a glimpse at some of the health properties of the small, but mighty Goji berry:
- Contains high levels of antioxidants
- Offers support for the immune system
- Provides cancer fighting antioxidants like vitamin C, zeaxanthin, and carotenoids
- Contains beta-carotene which promotes healthy skin
- Stabilizes blood sugar
- Helps improve anxiety, depression, and sleep
- Helps prevent liver damage
Goji berries are more readily available in supermarkets, but if you’re unsure of where exactly to look, check out this great Chinese Goji berry option HERE.
Dried Chinese Black Dates
Dried Chinese black dates should be in every woman’s pantry. The benefits are undeniable, and might just be one of the most important ingredients in the tea. The black date is specifically used during the postpartum journey in Chinese medicine. There’s a reason for that.
What’s the big deal with these little guys? Let’s have a look at some of the benefits.
- Promotes healthy digestion
- Contains high levels of antioxidants
- Improves blood circulation
- Treats anemia from blood loss (so important after giving birth)
- Helps relieve depression and anxiety by calming the mind
- Improves quality of sleep
- Promotes strong and healthy hair
Finding the right Chinese dried dates can be super tricky. I always struggle a little when I’m looking for a good brand. THESE dried black dates are a great option that I recommend.
How To Prep The Tea
Making this tea is ridiculously easy. In a large pot, put 4-5 dried red dates, 2 dried black dates, and a small handful of dried goji berries. Fill the pot with water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and let simmer for about 30 minutes.
To make the process even more foolproof, I use my small Instant pot. Place all of the ingredients inside the pot, fill water up to the max line, and set it to “pressure cook” for 20 minutes. It probably doesn’t even need that long, but that’s how I’ve always done it, and it comes out perfectly every time.
Either option works great.
How Much Should I Drink?

This hormone balancing tea is so addictive you will find yourself sipping on it all day long.
Do you need to drink it all day long? No. About one mug full per day is enough. But I dare you to stop at one cup.
It’s not harmful to drink as much as you want, so go to town. Of course, if you have any medical concerns at all, please consult your doctor before incorporating anything new into your diet.
Conclusion
I truly believe in the power of this hormone balancing tea, and I am incredibly grateful I learned about it in my own postpartum season. We have so much to learn from other cultures when it comes to health and wellness post-pregnancy. The Chinese have been using food as medicine for centuries, and it’s about time we learn from them and follow suit.
This tea is a great place to begin. I hope you love this tea as much as I do!
