I remember the days of baby led weaning when my sweet little son would demolish avocados. Then we hit toddlerhood. Why on earth would you give me, this, mom?? Sigh. Thankfully, there are yummy ways to incorporate superfoods without offending our little ones. This avocado cacao pudding is a brain-boosting snack in disguise! I dare any toddler to turn away chocolate pudding. Not gonna happen. This one is great for you, too, mom!
The Star Of The Show: Avocado

Avocados are the perfect food for toddlers because they’re soft, easy to mash, and packed with essential nutrients that support healthy growth and development. Here are the nutritional benefits:
- Healthy Fats: Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats, which are good for heart health and brain development. These fats help toddlers’ bodies absorb fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K, which are crucial for overall growth and immunity.
- Fiber: Avocados contain dietary fiber, aiding digestion and preventing constipation in toddlers. Fiber also helps regulate blood sugar levels, keeping energy levels stable throughout the day.
- Vitamins and Minerals: Avocados are loaded with vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, and folate. These nutrients support immune function, eye health, bone development, and cognitive function in growing toddlers.
- Protein: While not as high in protein as other foods, avocados still provide a small amount, which is important for muscle development and repair in toddlers.
- Low in Sugar: Avocados are naturally low in sugar, making them a great choice for toddlers, especially in a world where added sugars are prevalent in many processed foods. This helps prevent spikes in blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of dental cavities.
Avocado Cacao Pudding Recipe
Now that you know just how amazing avocados are, let’s get to the good stuff!
This recipe is great for both your little one and you! Make it a pudding party. When I was a kid, I loved those snack pudding cups, but this recipe knocks those pudding cups to the curb when it comes to nutrition. Nothing beats the first scoop of pudding. I know you know what I’m talking about.
Here’s what you’ll need to make avocado cacao pudding (for 2!):

- 2 Avocados
- 2 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 4 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup (add more or less depending on your sweetness preference)
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract (consider alcohol-free vanilla if preferred)
- 4 tbsp Milk, dairy or non-dairy will do
Simply place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides of the blender when necessary. Portion the pudding into smaller cups and chill in the fridge for a few hours. The creamy consistency is a dream after it’s chilled.
Top with anything you like! Chia seeds, crushed nuts, sprinkles, whipped cream, berries, and granola all make a great addition to this delicious snack.
