Elevate Construction Truck Pretend Play With This Charcoal Play Dough

There is something so magical about construction sites. Just ask my toddler. He’s very into diggers, excavators, loaders, you name it. If we see a construction site, we just have to stop and admire all the action. Construction truck pretend play is a favorite activity for us, and this charcoal play dough takes things up a notch. Your little kiddos are gonna love this addition to their construction truck pretend play.

You can whip this charcoal play dough up in no time. It’s super easy, so I highly recommend you involve your little ones in the process. I find that anything my toddler makes is an even bigger hit with him, and he plays with it for longer. That’s always a win.

Before we jump into this charcoal play dough, gather everything you need. You need the following items:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 2 tbls cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp activated charcoal powder
  • 2 tbsp oil (coconut)
  • 3/4 cup hot water

In a medium sized bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients. After you give them a good swirl, add in the wet ingredients. Use your hands to ensure everything is well combined.

If the mixture is too wet, add more flour. If it’s too dry, simply add a touch more hot water.

Create A Construction Site That Wows Your Toddler

Now that the charcoal play dough is done, it’s time to have some fun! Not that making the play dough wasn’t fun, but now let’s really get into it!

Gather trucks, cars, toy cranes, tractors, trains, planes, heck even boats and dinosaurs! The only rule here is that everyone has fun.

The charcoal play dough is perfect for making roads. It reminds me of freshly poured concrete, easily marked by footprints. You can also roll the play dough into little balls and use the cranes, trucks and trains to transport the balls.

Building a little wall is also a great way to utilize the play dough. If you have tiny play bricks, use the play dough at mortar and build a wall. You can also use little stones to build a stone wall. Use your imagination!
