Magical DIY Puffy Paint For Kids

I’m going to be aging myself here, but do you remember those little bottles of puffy paint that were super popular in the 90’s? How many of us made sweatshirts with little puff paint outlined bunnies and kitties? 🙋🏻‍♀️ 🥳 This DIY puffy paint recipe is a total throw back to the puffy paint of the 90’s. You’re welcome, mama! You and your toddler are gonna love this.

Let The Toddlers Paint!

Painting is a fantastic way for toddlers to explore their creativity and express themselves freely. Here’s why they should get plenty of chances to paint:

  • Enhances Gross Motor Skills: Painting with big brushes or fingers helps toddlers develop arm and hand muscles.
  • Encourages Decision Making: Choosing colors and where to paint fosters decision-making skills.
  • Boosts Cognitive Development: Mixing colors teaches cause and effect, enhancing cognitive abilities.
  • Promotes Sensory Exploration: Feeling the paint’s texture stimulates sensory experiences.
  • Fosters Self-Expression: Painting allows toddlers to communicate feelings and ideas visually.
  • Builds Confidence: Completing artwork independently builds a sense of accomplishment.

Puffy Paint Recipe

Get ready for the easiest, coolest paint activity you’ve done in awhile. This super simple activity requires just 3 things:

  • Shaving cream
  • Liquid glue
  • Food coloring

I recommend using a muffin tin to keep the colors separate and provide easy access to each color. I find using separate bowls makes dropping paint on the floor more likely.

To create this incredible puffy paint, you’ll need to combine equal parts shaving cream and liquid glue.

After combining the shaving cream and glue, add a couple drops of food coloring and mix well.
