Call me crazy, but I love messy activities. However, I know I’m not quite the norm, and I know plenty of moms who absolutely cringe when I tell them about the activities I create for my toddler. In honor of the mama who prefers a more mess-free experience, here are 3 entertaining but mess free toddler activities.

1. Water Painting

This water painting activity is genius. It is more than just a fun activity. It teaches toddlers about wet and dry properties, and it doesn’t matter if they get water all over the place. In case you need reminded, water dries! And it doesn’t stain. Wahoo!

Fill a small container with water and grab some various colors of construction paper.

Gather paint brushes, cotton ear buds, cotton swabs, sponges, anything you can think of to do some water painting.

2. Color Mixing

You won’t believe how easy this activity is. It’s colorful and completely mess free.

To begin, you will need a clear plastic sleeve used in a binder or a large ziplock bag.

Choose a few colors of paint and put some globs of colors inside the sleeve or bag. When you’ve got a good amount of paint globs, take a piece of packing tape and tape the edge of the plastic sleeve completely closed. Be sure to do this step very well to ensure no paint escapes the sleeve. If you are using a ziplock bag, I also suggest to tape the ziplock bag shut after you’ve closed it.

Tape the file or ziplock down to the table. Using your fingers or different objects such as spoons or small toys, rub over the paint and watch the colors mix together. You can also show your toddler how to draw in the paint by using a finger.

Amazing, right?

3. Toddler Collage Art

I love this activity because it gives little ones a lot of creative freedom to make it whatever they want. Each collage will look wildly different when it’s finished.

Begin with a piece of thick cardstock. Using double sided tape, cover one side of the cardstock.

Create a spread of feathers, buttons, ribbons, pom poms, pieces of colorful paper, anything you can find that will stick to the double sided tape and create a beautiful collage. Present the items to your toddler and let them stick things on the double sided tape.
