Gather Material

First, let’s make sure you have everything you will need to construct your egg carton animal characters. Gather the following materials:

  • Empty egg carton
  • Cardboard
  • One pen or pencil
  • Glue (can be bottled glue or hot glue gun)
  • Scissors or exacto knife
  • Paints and paintbrush

Prepare Egg Cartons

Once you’ve got all the materials ready to go, it’s time to cut the animal heads from the egg cartons.

An exacto knife is going to be much easier than scissors for this step.

Using your knife, cut out the center cones of the egg carton. You can include the ears in the cut out cone, or you can cut ears separately and glue them onto the egg carton cone head. The shape of your ears will depend on what animal you are creating.

Construct The Egg Carton Animal Frame

After you have the heads of the egg carton animals ready to go, it’s time to construct the animal frame where you will draw and paint the body of the animal as well as create a fun boarder.

The shape of the animal frame doesn’t matter as long as you can easily fit the entire body of the animal and have room to create a body and border. For this step, you can be as basic or detailed as you like.

Paint the animal body and frame boarder after you have them drawn onto the cardboard.

You will also want to paint the animal heads, adding eyes, a mouth, whiskers, whatever you want to include on the faces.

Glue the head of the animal onto the painted body. Now you are ready to hang your adorable egg carton animal characters on the wall!
